At least 12 suspected militants were killed in retaliatory fire after they assaulted the village of Tsentoroi in the Shalinsky district of the North Caucasus republic of Chechnya early on 29 August. Four police officers were killed and six other people – two police officers and four civilians – were wounded during the clashes. Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov was present in the village during the attack but was unharmed.
