At least six people – three soldiers and three civilians – were killed and 14 others were wounded when suspected Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) militants conducted successive attacks on a security checkpoint in the Adhamiyah district of the capital Baghdad on 29 July. In the initial attack militants shot dead three soldiers at the checkpoint. As security forces responded to the attack, five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were detonated before militants opened fire on the responding security forces.
