Security officials confirmed on 3 February that an unspecified number of convicted Hizbullah militants had escaped from a high-security prison in the capital Cairo late on 30 January during ongoing political unrest in the city. According to security sources, among those who escaped were members of a militant cell who had been convicted of planning IED attacks in the country.
