Two police officers were killed when unidentified militants opened fire on their vehicle in the Chegemskiy district of the North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria on 17 January. The officers were guarding the republic’s former Minister of the Interior, Khachim Shogenov, when they came under attack, but Shogenov was unhurt.
