A Turkish national attempted to hijack a Turkish Airlines flight from the Norwegian capital Oslo to Istanbul on 5 January when he stormed the cockpit, brandishing what he claimed was an improvised explosive device (IED), and demanding that the flight return to Oslo. However, the hijacker was overpowered by passengers and the aircraft landed safely in Istanbul where the suspect was immediately arrested by airport security. The IED was subsequently found to be fake.
