At least 28 people were killed during clashes between armed supporters of rival political parties in the city of Karachi in Sindh province which began late on 16 October. The clashes took place ahead of a bi-election for a Sindh provincial assembly seat that was held by the murdered senior Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) official Raza Haider. A number of vehicles were also set alight in the clashes.
