Forty-one people were detained by security forces on 1 October during a series of counter-terrorism operations across 13 cities – including Madrid, Barcelona, and Alicante – for their alleged involvement in financing the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) with laundered money from drug trafficking operations. A police statement said: “During the investigation it transpired that the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia [FARC] or some of its members may have been the recipients of part of the funds”.
