At least 25 people were killed in a complex suicide attack by Shabab militants targeting the main airport in Mogadishu on 9 September. Two suicide bombers first attacked the gates. A SVBIED was then detonated just inside the gates. Another vehicle then entered carrying at least five Shabab militants armed with suicide vests and small-arms. Security forces resisted the attack and killed the remaining militants. However, both security personnel and civilians were killed during the assault.
